Risk disclosure
What a backtest can and cannot tell you.
BacktestFlow measures what you did on a chart. It does not know what the market will do next, and neither does anyone else. Read this before you trust a number.

1. Nothing here is advice
BacktestFlow, this website and everything the app shows you (statistics, reports, profiles, the guidance of the onboarding) are educational and analytical. None of it is investment advice, a recommendation to buy or sell anything, or a promise of a result. We are not a broker, a financial adviser or a signal provider, and we are not authorised to give financial advice in any country.
Trading foreign exchange, contracts for difference, indices, metals and cryptocurrencies involves a significant risk of loss. You can lose more than you deposit with a leveraged product. Only trade with money you can afford to lose, and if you are not sure whether trading is right for you, ask an independent, licensed adviser.
2. Backtested results are hypothetical
Every result you obtain in BacktestFlow comes from replaying historical data. It is produced with hindsight, on candles that have already closed, and it reflects only the trades you chose to place. It does not include the spread, the commission, the swap, the slippage and the requotes of a real broker, nor the delays and the hesitation of a real decision. Two people replaying the same chart get two different results.
A strategy that looks good on past data may have been fitted to that data, by you or by chance. Past performance, real or simulated, does not guarantee future results.
3. Backtests and live trading differ
Live trading adds everything a replay removes: execution costs, the psychological weight of real money, news, gaps, illiquid hours, broker rules. The statistics BacktestFlow computes on your journal, on your live trades, will differ from the ones it computed on the backtest of the same strategy, sometimes by a lot. That gap is the thing to study; the app exists to show it, not to hide it. We wrote more about it inwhy backtest results do not match live trading.
4. Leverage and CFDs
Most retail forex and index trading is done through leveraged CFDs. Leverage multiplies both gains and losses: a small move against you can wipe out the margin, and a broker can close your positions without asking. A large share of retail CFD accounts lose money. Nothing in a backtest reduces that risk.
5. What the reports are
The Flow Coach reports and the Trader Profile are written by a language model from the statistics the app computed on your own trades. They describe your numbers; they do not predict the market and they do not tell you what to trade. They can be wrong, and they are only as good as the sample they are built on: the app tells you when a sample is too small to mean anything, and you should treat it that way.
6. The prop firm mode
The prop firm challenge in BacktestFlow simulates the kind of rules a proprietary trading firm applies (a profit target, a daily and a maximum drawdown). It is a simulation of rules, not of a firm: passing it in the app says nothing about passing the evaluation of any real firm, whose rules, data and judgement are their own.
7. No affiliation
