If this is you
Choose TraderBuddy
You want a MetaTrader account to fill your journal and a mood log next to your trades. Or you trade stocks too, or want a community around your strategies.
BacktestFlow vs TraderBuddy
TraderBuddy and BacktestFlow both pair backtesting with a journal, in the browser, on TradingView charts. TraderBuddy goes wide: stocks to crypto, a mood tracker, a community and a MetaTrader link on its top plan. BacktestFlow goes deep on forex: statistics in pips, a replay that waits for every trade to be recorded, and coach findings checked for significance.

Where BacktestFlow leads
“Track your emotions, uncover your tendencies, and improve your discipline.”
TraderBuddy reads discipline through how you feel. BacktestFlow measures it in your trades: planned against captured R:R and sizing consistency on every plan, a checklist discipline score on paid plans.
Every close opens a write up with notes, tags, checklist and screenshots, captured automatically on close if you like. The replay waits until it is saved, so the trades you'd rather forget stay in the sample.
Flow Coach runs 28 analyses across backtest and journal. A finding is kept only if it passes a 90% significance check on a group of at least 8 trades. The report may only quote numbers the engine measured.
Describe your strategy in plain words and it becomes the checklist you are measured against. On paid plans, the Breakdown section splits results by checklist item, so you see what following your rules is worth. See every metric.
Statistics read in pips, and multi hour candles sit on the DST aware 17:00 New York grid, so H4 matches tradingview.com. Switching timeframe never shows an unfinished candle. Session and TDI studies come built in.
On the Max plan, a slider sends the replay back 1 to 50 candles. A red line shows the cut before you confirm, and rewind stays blocked while a position is open.
Where TraderBuddy leads
If you need a connected account, TraderBuddy is the better fit. On its top plan, the MetaTrader integration updates the journal and statistics by itself.
If you want a mood log next to every trade, TraderBuddy is the better fit: MoodTracker is built for exactly that.
If you need stocks in the same tool, TraderBuddy is the better fit. It states support for all financial markets, stocks included.
The short answer
If this is you
You want a MetaTrader account to fill your journal and a mood log next to your trades. Or you trade stocks too, or want a community around your strategies.
If this is you
You backtest forex by hand. You want every trade recorded before the replay moves on, statistics in pips, and a coach that reports only what passes a significance check.
Both have a free plan and both run in the browser. The cheapest test is the real one: replay the same strategy in each for a week.
FAQ
TraderBuddy is a web based journaling and backtesting platform. It organizes your trading around strategies, each with a backtesting panel on integrated TradingView charts. Around them sit a trade journal with a calendar, a MoodTracker for emotions, statistics and a community of Buddies. Its top plan adds a MetaTrader integration that links a trading account, and it runs a partner program for educators.
TraderBuddy offers a free plan with limits on backtest trades, journal trades and strategies, and paid plans that lift them. BacktestFlow also has a free plan. We don't quote prices or plan limits, because they change: check both at the source.
Both pair backtesting with a journal in the browser. TraderBuddy goes wide: stocks, forex, commodities and crypto, a mood tracker, a community and a MetaTrader link on its top plan. BacktestFlow goes deep on the forex replay. Every trade is recorded before the replay moves on, and a timeframe switch never shows what comes next. Coach findings must pass a significance check.
Not in BacktestFlow, on purpose. Backtest and journal are separate tools with their own history, statistics and Flow Coach reports. Replay results never flatter your live record, and live mistakes never dilute a strategy test.
