If this is you
Choose Forex Tester
You scalp and need tick level data, watch several synced charts or test coded strategies next to manual ones. Or you want minimum days in prop firm practice, or work offline.
BacktestFlow vs Forex Tester
Forex Tester Online and BacktestFlow both replay forex in the browser for manual testing. Forex Tester Online goes wide: tick data over up to 23 years, up to 10 synced charts, coded strategies. BacktestFlow goes deep on execution: a record you cannot skip, findings that must pass a significance check and, on paid plans, discipline as a statistic.
Which Forex Tester
Forex Tester began as desktop software, and the desktop version still exists: its site says you can backtest “with no internet connection”. The main product today is Forex Tester Online, which runs in any browser, on desktop and mobile, with nothing to download or install.
This page compares BacktestFlow with Forex Tester Online, and mentions the desktop version where it changes the answer. Older comparisons that pit a browser tool against Forex Tester on installation alone are out of date: both now open in a browser tab.

Where BacktestFlow leads
“Backtest combined algorithmic and discretionary trading systems in comprehensive portfolio scenarios”
Forex Tester Online covers robots and discretionary trading together. BacktestFlow is built for the trader who places every trade by hand, and it records how each one was executed.
Every close opens a write up with notes, tags, your checklist and screenshots, and the replay waits until it is saved. Screenshots can be captured automatically on close. A session cannot end with half its trades missing, the usual route to a sample too thin to conclude anything from.
Flow Coach runs 28 analyses across backtest and journal. It keeps a pattern only if it passes a significance check: a 90% Wilson interval and a group of at least 8 trades. The written report may only quote numbers the engine measured, so a lucky streak does not become a finding. See the full metric list.
On every plan, the statistics measure the share of planned risk to reward captured, target hit rate and sizing consistency. On paid plans, your checklist becomes a discipline score too. Those numbers separate a broken strategy from a broken execution of a good one. See why your backtest doesn't match your live trading.
Statistics read in pips as well as R, % and money. Multi hour candles sit on the DST aware 17:00 New York grid, so H4 candles match tradingview.com through every daylight saving change. On paid plans, results break down by trading session. More on the session breakdown.
Describe your strategy in plain words and it becomes a strategy card with a checklist. Every trade is then measured against the rules you wrote. On paid plans you can also draft it from the strategy form, or dictate it.
Where Forex Tester leads
Inside a single candle, tick data with simulated spreads, swaps and commissions matters most. For that work, Forex Tester Online is the better fit.
Forex Tester Online tests trading robots, and portfolios that mix them with discretionary trades. If code is part of your process, it is the better fit.
If your setups depend on correlated pairs or timeframes side by side, Forex Tester Online is the better fit. Its desktop version also runs without a connection.
